The Green Machine Youth Wrestling team bounced back from a rough start to its first-ever NYWA State appearance with two big wins on Sunday to take home 1st Place in Pool #8. The Green Machine took down Deer River in the first dual on Sunday, then dispatched Perham in the finale. Great finish to a fantastic season!
In the Individual State tournament, Owen Farmer began the tournament with two wins followed by two losses including a heartbreaking 3x OT decision, but Farmer came back with a last-second win in the 5th Place match.

Coach Babcock made good on his promise! Coach promised the kids could cut and color his hair if the team qualified for NYWA State. No wonder the kids wrestled with such motivation at NYWA Regions. Prior to the Chatfield dual, coach Babcock reminded the kids of his promise. The Green Machine went out and dismantled Chatfield 63-6 to advance to its first-ever state appearance. Chatfield later went on to beat Zumbrota-Mazeppta, who coincidentally had beaten Faribault in the opening round. Green Machine team will wrestle next Saturday-Sunday, April 6-7, at the Mayo Civic Center.

The Green Machine Youth Wrestling Team advanced to its first-ever State tournament. After dropping a heartbreaking opener to Zumbrota-Mazeppa, the team ripped off four straight wins over PEM, Rochester Mayo, Northfield, and Chatfield. The Green Machine Youth Wrestling team placed 3rd at the Cannon Falls Team Tournament this past Sunday with a 3-2 record despite forfeiting two weights each dual. The two losses were in a heartbreaking 40-37 dual to eventual-champion Northfield and a 39-39 tie to Bloomington but lost on the 8th tiebreaker criteria. The three wins came over Cannon Falls (61-24), Triton (62-18), and Richfield (55-36). Nathan Pientka, Riley Reistad, Josh Outhoudt, and Owen Farmer were all 5-0. David Tonjum and Cal Schultz were also undefeated at heavyweight. Tar Tut and Ethan Erickson had four wins each, while Andrew Flicek, Brady Racine, and Aiden Tobin each had three wins on the day.
